Are you seeking for help to quickly access files on your Chromebook? If yes, then nothing to worry about, because Chrome Inside is here as your troubleshooter to eliminate your all kind of issues without wasting your precious time. Just hit Ctrl + m to bring up the Files app. Here, you can browse, organize, and delete both your local files as well as access files stored in the cloud with Google Drive.
Use the built-in Files apps on your Chrome device to access files that you have stored on the device or on the web in Google Drive. If you are totally aware with the working of your files, you can easily access to that particular file in your Google Drive. You can make it available offline so that you can access it even if you are not connected to the Internet. To learn how to set this up, just follow the steps listed below:
Opening files:
- Press Ctrl+M to open the Files app.
- Choose the file collection you'd like to browse from the left.
- Double-click a file to open it.
You can also connect an external storage device to access its files. Its possible to search for your file by using the search box in the upper-right corner. Your search results will show you matches from the folder you're in. You can even preview your file by using the thumbnail view. Use the icons in the top-right corner of the app to toggle between the list view and thumbnail view. Consider an example. If you organize and share photos using Picasa Web Albums, you can use it to open all your image files by default.
If you haven't already, sign in to your Chrome device and press Ctrl+M to open the Files app. Then, select a file that you'd like to open. You should see a button at the bottom that lets you open the file. Click the menu arrow in the button to see the apps you can use to open the file. The app you select will be used to open similar files in the future. To change this default setting, simply click the arrow and select another app.
"Unknown file type": If you see this message, that means your Chrome device can't open your file. Save the file to Google Drive or another web application, and try opening it within your browser. See a list of supported file types for your Chrome device. "Google Drive cannot be reached at this time", then you have to check your Internet connection.
Save a file:
- To save the page you are currently viewing as a file, just press Ctrl+S and choose the best location for your file within the Files app.
- To save the file to your Chrome device, choose the Downloads folder. Make sure that downloaded files may be automatically deleted if your Chrome device is running low on space.
- To access the file online anytime, from any device, choose the Google Drive option. Your file will be downloaded to Google Drive, which you can access from any computer.
If you are saving an executable file (such as files with .exe, .dll, or .bat extensions), first confirm that you want to save the file in the panel that appears at the bottom of your screen. This step helps prevent malicious software from being downloaded without your knowledge. Keep in mind that your Chrome device wasn't designed to run software for traditional computers, like .exe files.
Delete a file
- Press Ctrl+M to open the Files app or click the Files icon in your apps list.
- Right-click (or click with two fingers on a Chromebook) the file or folder you want to delete.
- Select Delete in the menu that appears.
- You can also use the keyboard shortcut Alt+Backspace.
